This Privacy Policy describes how Pit Stop BBQ App ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and
discloses your personal information when you use the Pit Stop BBQ App mobile application (the "App") and our website at www.pitstopbbqapp.com (the "Website" and together with the App,
the "Services").
By creating an account, downloading or using the App, or visiting the Website, you agree to the
collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with
our policies and practices, please do not use the Services.
We are committed to handling your personal information responsibly and transparently. This
policy is intended to help you understand what data we collect, why we collect it, and how you
can manage your information.
Information We Collect
We collect several types of information from and about users of our Services, including
information that personally identifies you, information about your device, and information about
how you interact with the Services.
Information You Provide to Us
When you create an account or use features of the Services, we may collect the following
information directly from you:
• Name: the first and last name you provide when registering for an account.
• Email address: used to create your account, send confirmations, and communicate with
you about the Services.
• Account credentials: a password or other authentication information you choose when
registering.
• Profile information: optional details such as a profile photo, biographical information,
and BBQ preferences.
• Location: the city, region, or specific geographic location you provide or that we detect
(see "Location data" below).
• User-generated content: check-ins at venues, written reviews and ratings, photos you
upload, comments, and other content you post or share through the Services.
• Communications: information you provide when you contact us for customer support,
respond to surveys, or otherwise communicate with us.
Location Data
Location information is central to how the Pit Stop BBQ App works. With your permission, we
collect precise or approximate location data from your mobile device in order to:
• Show you nearby BBQ restaurants, food trucks, and venues.
• Recommend nearby BBQ supply stores, smokers, and equipment retailers.
• Surface upcoming competitions, events, and pitmaster gatherings in your area.
• Enable check-ins and verify reviews submitted at specific venues.
You may control whether the App can access your location through your device's operating
system settings (iOS or Android). If you disable location access, certain features of the App,
including nearby recommendations and check-ins, will not function or will function only in a
limited way.
Information Collected Automatically
When you use the Services, we and our service providers automatically collect certain
information about your device and how you interact with the Services. This may include:
• Device information: device model, operating system and version, unique device
identifiers (such as a mobile advertising identifier or installation ID), language settings,
and mobile network information.
• Usage information: pages or screens viewed, features used, search queries, check-in
history, time spent in the App, click and tap activity, and crash or diagnostic data.
• Log data: IP address, browser type (for the Website), access times, and referring URLs.
• Cookies and similar technologies: on the Website, we use cookies and similar
technologies to recognize repeat visitors, remember preferences, and measure
performance. (See "Cookies" and "Mobile App storage" below).
Push Notifications and Mobile App Data
If you install the App on your mobile device, we may send push notifications to alert you about
new BBQ venues near you, replies to your reviews, upcoming events, friend activity, and
promotional offers from sponsors. You may opt out of receiving push notifications at any time
through your device's notification settings.
The App also stores certain data locally on your device, such as cached map tiles, recently
viewed venues, and your login session, in order to function reliably and reduce data usage. You
can clear this local data by uninstalling the App or by clearing the App's storage in your device
settings.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
• To create, maintain, and secure your account and to authenticate you when you log in.
• To provide personalized, location-based recommendations for BBQ venues, supply
stores, and competition teams near you.
• To enable core App features such as check-ins, reviews, ratings, photo uploads, and
search for venues, events, and pitmasters.
• To display content shared by other users, including reviews, photos, and check-ins, in
your feed and on venue pages.
• To deliver brand-sponsored content and advertisements within the App in a way that is
relevant to you (for example, sponsored content related to BBQ products, restaurants, or
events).
• To send transactional communications, such as account confirmations, password resets,
security alerts, and responses to your inquiries.
• To send promotional communications, such as newsletters, event announcements, or
special offers, where you have not opted out.
• To analyze usage trends, monitor performance, debug errors, and improve the Services.
• To detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions, abuse of the Services, and
other illegal activity, and to protect the rights, property, and safety of Pit Stop BBQ App,
our users, and others.
• To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described in this Privacy
Policy, including with:
• Other users of the Services: your username, profile information, public reviews,
ratings, photos, and check-ins are visible to other users of the Services. Please use
discretion when sharing content.
• Service providers: companies that perform services on our behalf, such as hosting,
data storage, analytics, customer support, email delivery, push notification delivery,
mapping, and advertising technology. These providers are authorized to use your
information only as necessary to provide services to us.
• Advertising and sponsorship partners: we may share limited information (such as
device identifiers, general location, and aggregated usage data) with advertising
partners and sponsoring brands so they can deliver and measure relevant in-app
advertisements. We do not share your name, email address, or precise location with
advertisers without your consent.
• Business transfers: in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of
company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business, your
information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
• Legal and safety: when required by law, subpoena, court order, or other legal process,
or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your
safety, or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.
• With your consent: in any other case where you have given us permission to share
information.
Third-Party Services
The Services rely on a number of third-party platforms and tools to provide and improve
features. The following third-party services may collect or process information about you in
connection with your use of the Services:
• Google Maps API: we use the Google Maps API to display maps, calculate distances,
and provide location-based features. Your use of Google Maps within the App is subject
to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy
Policy.
• Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with the
Services. Google Analytics may use cookies, mobile identifiers, and similar technologies
to collect information about your usage. You can learn more about Google's data
practices at policies.google.com/privacy and opt out of Google Analytics by installing the
Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
• Cloud hosting and storage providers: we use reputable cloud providers to host the
Services and store data, including photos and account information.
• Push notification providers: we use Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and
Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver notifications to your device.
• Advertising partners: we work with advertising networks and sponsoring brands to
deliver in-App advertisements. These partners may use cookies, advertising identifiers,
and similar technologies, subject to their own privacy policies.
Cookies and Mobile App Storage
Cookies are small data files placed on your computer or device when you visit a website. We
use cookies and similar technologies on the Website to:
• Keep you signed in and remember your preferences.
• Understand how visitors use the Website, so we can improve content and performance.
• Measure the effectiveness of our marketing and sponsored content.
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can choose to
disable cookies, but doing so may affect your ability to use certain features of the Website.
On the App, we use local storage on your device (such as cached files, app preferences, and
login tokens) for similar purposes — keeping you logged in, speeding up performance, and remembering your settings. You can clear App storage by clearing the App's data in your device
settings or by uninstalling the App.
We may also use mobile advertising identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA or Google's Advertising
ID) to deliver and measure sponsored content. You can reset or limit the use of these identifiers
in your device's privacy settings.
Your Choices and Rights
You have the following choices regarding the information we collect and how it is used:
• Account information: you can review, update, or delete your account information at
any time through the App's settings or by contacting us at info@pitstopbbqapp.com.
• Location: you can enable or disable location access through your device's operating
system settings.
• Push notifications: you can disable push notifications through your device's notification
settings or in the App's notification preferences.
• Marketing emails: you can opt out of promotional emails by clicking the "unsubscribe"
link in any marketing email or by contacting us. Transactional emails (such as account or
security notices) will still be sent.
• Cookies: you can manage cookies through your browser settings.
• Account deletion: you can request that we delete your account and associated
personal information by emailing info@pitstopbbqapp.com. After deletion, certain
information may remain in backups for a limited period or may be retained as required by
law.
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) Compliance
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) places parents in control over what
information is collected from children under the age of 13. The Federal Trade Commission, the
United States' consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what
operators of websites and online services must do to protect children's privacy and safety
online.
The Services are not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect
personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal
information from a child under 13 without verifiable parental consent, we will delete that
information as quickly as possible. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal
information, please contact us at info@pitstopbbqapp.com.
California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA) Compliance
CalOPPA is the first state law in the United States to require commercial websites and online
services to post a privacy policy. The law's reach stretches well beyond California to require any
person or company in the United States (and conceivably the world) that operates websites
collecting Personally Identifiable Information from California consumers to post a conspicuous
privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals
or companies with whom it is being shared.
In accordance with CalOPPA, we agree to the following:
• Users can visit our Website and use the App anonymously, subject to the limitations
described in this policy.
• Once this Privacy Policy is created, we will add a link to it on our home page or, at
minimum, on the first significant page after entering our Website.
• Our Privacy Policy link includes the word "Privacy" and can be easily found on the page
specified above.
• Users will be notified of any privacy policy changes on our Privacy Policy Page.
• Users are able to change their personal information by emailing us at
info@pitstopbbqapp.com or through their account settings in the App.
How does our site handle Do Not Track signals? We honor Do Not Track signals and do not
track, plant cookies, or use advertising when a Do Not Track browser mechanism is in place.
Does our site allow third-party behavioral tracking? It is also important to note that we may allow
third-party behavioral tracking through advertising and analytics partners as described above.
California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) Rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the
California Privacy Rights Act, provides you with additional rights regarding your personal
information. These include the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to
request deletion of your personal information, the right to correct inaccurate personal
information, the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and the right not to
be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To exercise any of these rights, please
contact us at info@pitstopbbqapp.com. We do not sell personal information
for monetary value.
Fair Information Practices
The Fair Information Practices Principles form the backbone of privacy law in the United States,
and the concepts they include have played a significant role in the development of data
protection laws around the globe. Understanding the Fair Information Practice Principles and
how they should be implemented is critical to comply with the various privacy laws that protect
personal information.
In order to be in line with Fair Information Practices, we will take the following responsive action
should a data breach occur:
• We will notify affected users via in-app notification or email within 7 business days of
confirming the breach.
We also agree to the Individual Redress Principle, which requires that individuals have the right
to legally pursue enforceable rights against data collectors and processors who fail to adhere to
the law. This principle requires not only that individuals have enforceable rights against data
users, but also that individuals have recourse to courts or government agencies to investigate
and/or prosecute non-compliance by data processors.
CAN-SPAM Act Compliance
The CAN-SPAM Act is a law that sets the rules for commercial email, establishes requirements
for commercial messages, gives recipients the right to have emails stopped from being sent to
them, and spells out tough penalties for violations.
We collect your email address in order to:
• Send information, respond to inquiries, and/or other requests or questions.
• Send you account-related notices, including confirmations, security alerts, and updates
to our policies.
• Send marketing or promotional communications, such as event announcements and
sponsored offers, where you have not opted out.
To be in accordance with CAN-SPAM, we agree to the following:
• Not use false or misleading subjects or email addresses.
• Identify the message as an advertisement in some reasonable way.
• Include the physical address of our business or site headquarters.
• Monitor third-party email marketing services for compliance, if one is used.
• Honor opt-out and unsubscribe requests quickly.
• Allow users to unsubscribe by using the link at the bottom of each email.
If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future marketing emails, you can
email us at info@pitstopbbqapp.com or follow the instructions at the bottom of each email, and
we will promptly remove you from all marketing correspondence.
Data Security
We implement a variety of administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to
protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, and disclosure.
These measures include encryption of data in transit, secure password storage, access
controls, and regular review of our information collection, storage, and processing practices.
However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100%
secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal
information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the
Services, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
Reviews, photos, and other content you post may remain visible on the Services even after your
account is deleted, although we will remove information that identifies you upon request, except
where retention is required by law.
International Users
The Services are operated from the United States. If you access the Services from outside the
United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and
processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your
country. By using the Services, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United
States.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices,
technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will notify
you by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, by
sending you an in-App notification or email. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy
periodically.
Your continued use of the Services after the effective date of any updated Privacy Policy
constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
